2023 was a whirlwind of emotions and trials, which I’ll dive deeper in to each in future posts.

New hurdles, new lessons, new skills.

One thing I am certain about in 2024 is that life will throw me curve balls, but all I’ve learnt in previous year will help me. My new found therapy will help me work through the traumas of my past, it’s given me light and understanding that my trauma does not define me, it does not make me who I am. Although my trauma has shaped some of my views and has etched in different responses in my world, that doesn’t mean that I can’t change them, but I can also keep what works for me and what helps me get through tough times.

I’ve learnt the difference between healthy and unhealthy coping and healing mechanics and I plan to share that in one of my next few blog posts.

Remember that the only person that has the power to change your life is you. Don’t ever allocate that power to someone else.

You have the power to say no. You have the power to set and stick with your boundaries.

Although boundaries can feel selfish, they aren’t. They are actually a necessity to your well being. They are your oxygen mask.

Please remember to put your own oxygen mask on first. Take care of you first, because if you don’t you’ll burn out helping everyone else.

I hope this year brings everyone joy and that if you are struggling for air that you remember to put your own oxygen mask on.

Ways to put your own mental health oxygen mask include:

  • Consious breathing. Breathe in the good, breathe out the heavy negative thoughts and feel your body grow lighter.
  • Journal. Write down the heavy feelings inside, you’ll be surprised what you can discover about yourself.
  • Take a walk. Walking outdoors can do wonders for your mindset.

For now this is what I’m going to leave you with.

YOU ARE STRONG. YOU ARE BRAVE. YOU ARE POWERFUL.
